Picture this: you’ve just finished work, the sun is shining down on you, and you’re laughing with your besties — what do you have in your hand? A fresh margarita.
Dream, right? If you’re Sydney-based this dream could soon be a reality with Tio’s Cerveceria slinging $12(!!) margaritas from Tuesday to Saturday every week. Even better? It’s in the heart of Surry Hills, so you’re sorted whether you’ve finished work or are out and about on a Saturday night.
You’ve probably already been there on your bar crawl, but if you haven’t… it’s going to become your new local. Why? Free Old El Paso taco-flavoured popcorn. I remember a bartender gave it to me, and I was like, ‘Oh, I haven’t paid for this’, and they were like, ‘No, no, it’s free’.
Mark 5 to 7pm at Tio’s Cerveceria from Tuesday to Saturday in your calendar as this is where you can snag a Classic Margarita for $12, as well as Angel Oro Lagers for $7 AND OK! Sparkling Margarita Seltzers also for $7. That’s as cheap as chips in this economy.
Or if you’ve arrived after 7pm on a Wednesday, do not worry — Tio’s has a margarita Happy Hour all night(!!) on Wednesdays. I knew I liked Hump Day for a reason.
Maybe you’re looking to shake up the classic marg? Tio’s has three new margarita ranges on the menu. (It’s not included in the Happy Hour btw, Tio’s has to make money somehow to keep feeding us free popcorn.)
The first drink is Sydney’s Spiciest Margarita, which I’ve been told will knock your socks off. (Or your sandals off, whatever floats your boat.) The bartenders have a whole collection of hot sauces, including ‘Da Bomb’ from Hot Ones, if you want to show off. Or, you can ask for a subtle kick and still feel brave if you’re weak like me. (You’re doing great, sweetie.)
The next drink that has fishbowls shaking in their boots, is Sydney’s Biggest Margarita that has not one, not two, not three, but FOUR margaritas in one. You and your friends can feel like you’re enjoying a Euro summer without having to leave Tio’s.
Finally, the range that interests me the most (because I love to be different) is Sydney’s Tastiest Margaritas. Whether you want a Lychee and Yuzu Marg, Cucumber and Mint Marg, a Tommy’s Marg (uses agave nectar instead of triple sec), or even a Mezcal Marg (has a smoky taste.) Did I have to just look those explanations up? Potentially, (and I’m suddenly craving a marg after this).
I’m just saying, if you’re gonna trust anyone to make your marg, it’s the Tio’s team. They regularly travels to Mexico to track down rare Mezcals and bring them back to Australia. (That does explain why one of the founder’s bars, Centro 86, just took out Best Tequila Bar at the Australian Bar Award.)
Tequila is growing 4.5 times faster than other spirits in Australia for good reason, so why not celebrate with a $12 Classic Margarita tonight from 5 to 7pm or all night on Wednesday? My hot tip is to make a booking here (after you’ve arranged it with the group chat), so you don’t miss out on all the margaritassss.
