We're certainly no strangers to turning to Drew Barrymore for all our design needs – and who can blame us when she has a whole decor brand to her name? Barrymore's 'Beautiful' range has blessed us with modern home staples, from her coffee maker to that boucle accent chair. However, sometimes, the most impactful pieces are also (seemingly) the most simple.
Enter – Barrymore's go-to hooks: Chiaozza Wall Hooks, to be exact. Though not designed by the actress, they were created by Chiaozza, AKA Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao, an artist duo whose work explores play and craft across a range of media. In this case, it's home decor that has officially made it into Barrymore's home if her Little Yellow Book is anything to go by.
The book, penned by Barrymore as a homage to her home must-haves, comprises everything from candles to marble bookends (it's all in the details, after all). The aformentioned hooks sat among her most favored pieces of all, and though they're a small investment, their small but mighty power is unmatched.
'Spice up your life! Confetti your home with these funky yet functional wall hooks,' the Little Yellow Book shares. 'These cheerful mini versions of Chiaozza's playful sculptures bring art to your walls and allow your favorite items to hang in an easily accessible way.'
Painted wood
Creatively designed by the duo, these Wall Hooks are like miniature, functional versions of their playful sculptures. Their bright colors and patterns will add a bit of cheer to any corner, whether it's a place to hang our bag in our entryway or an apron in our kitchen.
As Barrymore reminds us, these pieces are as practical as they are beautiful – but their ultra-small size means they really can make a statement in even the most compact of corners. Wall hooks, much like these, can change how we think about kitchen storage, and they'll look perfect holding our favorite bag in our bedroom. However, as designers explain, it's in small spaces where these accessories truly shine. First stop: the entryway.
'An entryway is a part of your home with a lot of traffic, meaning floor space is in scarce supply. But it’s also the first impression of your home, so you really shouldn’t skimp on style or interior design, comments Bo Hellberg, the MO at String Furniture. So, how can we make such an impression without a great floor space to play with? We should go vertical – and these hooks are the perfect starting point.
'Keep it simple and don’t clutter. Start from everyday functions and think about how to make those functions elegant. Like a simple mirror or pendant light. Or stylish hook [much like this one] to hang anything that looks good,' Hellberg says.
We've already added Barrymore's wall hook to our cart, but it's not the only sculptural piece to make the cut on her list. She also shouts out the Delaney Candle Holder from Anthropologie and the Seymour Candle Holder (also) available at Areaware. Barrymore similarly admires both of these for their shape, which, she says, are designed to function as mini sculptures' in her home. Additionally, when looking at tablescaping, this candle, designed by Barrymore for her 'Beautiful' range at Walmart, is just as perfect for any room (whether it's an occasion or not).
