Thiruvananthapuram: Doctor’s pre-arrest bail plea rejected

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Pocso court on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail application of a homeopathy doctor, who is accused of prescribing modern medicine to a minor girl with an intention to terminate her pregnancy.

The 62-year-old doctor is the second accused in a rape case registered at Poonthura police station. The first accused took the minor girl to the doctor to terminate her pregnancy.

The court observed that the doctor was practicing modern medicine at a private clinic in Poonthura without any licence for it. The prosecution argued before the court that the doctor intentionally prescribed the medicine to abort the pregnancy by knowing the fact that the girl was a minor.

The girl who made a self-test found that she was pregnant and approached the doctor with the first accused to confirm it.

Public prosecutor J K Ajith Prasad pleaded before the court not to give any consideration to the accused in view of the gravity of the crime committed by a person who himself is a medical practitioner.

The court observed that the act of the doctor is serious and unjustifiable and hence rejected his bail application.
