Third man sought to crack case of 'well-planned murder'

Police have released CCTV footage of a third man wanted for questioning over an unsolved murder. (HANDOUT/NSW POLICE)

A man seen using a mobile phone near the scene of a gangland-style shooting could hold the key to police cracking a nearly three-year-old murder case.

Police on Wednesday released CCTV footage of a third man wanted for questioning over the unsolved killing of Amar Kettule in Sydney's west on January 10, 2021.

The 34-year-old was shot dead on Ware Street in Fairfield about 2.40am in what investigators previously described as a "well-planned murder".

Homicide Squad detectives have been looking for two men seen in the area and are now looking for a third male, who was captured on CCTV cameras.

Pictured walking around the street near the time of Mr Kettule's shooting, the man was wearing a black Lacoste-branded jumper and dark shorts.

He is described as having a fair complexion with short dark hair and in the footage he is holding a mobile phone to his ear.

The release of the CCTV is the third appeal for information related to the death of Mr Kettule, who was well-known to police.

His younger brother Dyllan, 19, was shot dead outside his girlfriend's unit block in Canley Vale in 2014.

Police previously released footage of a dark Jeep Cherokee seen near the scene and later found burnt out in nearby Smithfield.

The vehicle had been stolen in the days prior to the murder.

Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty previously said more than one person was involved in Mr Kettule's shooting.

"This was obviously a well-planned murder ... the victim was taken by surprise and was virtually assassinated in his vehicle," he said.

Police earlier said they would investigate any links to organised crime.

Det Supt Doherty said on Wednesday detectives hoped the renewed appeal and extra CCTV footage would encourage anyone with information about the murder to come forward.

"As investigators continue to follow and exhaust every line of inquiry into Mr Kattule's death, I want to remind the public that no piece of information is too small," he said.
