Thiago Silva has already made feelings clear on Mauricio Pochettino amid Chelsea talks

Chelsea veteran Thiago Silva previously hailed Mauricio Pochettino ’s knowledge of football as the Argentine edges towards a move to Stamford Bridge.

The former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss has held talks with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy regarding the prospect of taking the reins in west London. He ranks highly among the club’s list of candidates as the Blues search for a permanent successor to Graham Potter.

He is among a host of names in the running to be appointed including former Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann, whilst Luis Enrique was previously linked but appears to have fallen down the pecking order over recent days. And Chelsea star Silva appears to be giving Pochettino’s arrival at Stamford Bridge the thumbs up.

Speaking after the Argentine’s arrival at PSG after replacing ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, the Brazilian defender said: “Mauricio Pochettino did a good job with Tottenham, I think he comes very motivated, 20 years after playing for PSG. He knows the club a bit

“Of course that has changed a lot, but he knows football a lot, he will work with very high level players. I am still a supporter of PSG.”

Chelsea are not the only club to have been linked with a move for Pochettino over the past few months. Their London rivals Tottenham are consistently rumoured to be considering a reunion with the Argentine following his sacking back in November 2019.

He lasted just 18 months in the French capital and despite winning Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Trophee des Champions during his time with the club, was sacked at the end of his first full campaign at the helm.

He has admitted that he would be tempted to return to the Premier League but stopped short of suggesting which club would be his preference. Speaking with talkSPORT, he said: "I miss the Premier League. Why not [return], we are open! I am really open.

“I love England and I am living between London and Barcelona, but more in London. My house, my home… I love to be in England. The Premier League is the best league in the world. It's so competitive.”

Whilst Chelsea are on the hunt for a new manager, it appears that Todd Boehly’s decision to put Frank Lampard in interim charge has been the wrong one. The iconic former midfielder has led the Blues to four defeats since returning to Stamford Bridge.

That has seen Chelsea eliminated from the Champions League, whilst they also now seem highly unlikely to be playing European football of any kind next term. Ahead of this weekend’s clash with Brentford at Stamford Bridge, they languish in 11th in the table and already 13 points behind seventh-placed Brighton having played two matches more.
