'They didn't like it' - Garth Crooks makes brutal Liverpool claim after Fulham draw

Liverpool's performance against Fulham on Saturday has been given a rough review by Garth Crooks after they kicked off their new Premier League campaign with a disappointing draw with Fulham Craven Cottage.

Former Match of the Day pundit Crooks has named his Premier League Team of the Week for the BBC Sport website and included striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who scored twice for the Cottagers, ensuring that Jurgen Klopp's side have already dropped points this season after just one game.

But whereas the Serbian international, who fired an incredible 43 goals in the Championship for Fulham last season, was lauded by Crooks for his performance, he was equally critical of the showing from Liverpool and in particular, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

After picking Mitrovic for his Team of the Week, Crooks wrote: "I know it was warm at Craven Cottage, but not even the former European champions can win football matches playing at walking pace. Meanwhile, Fulham were right in the face of the visitors and they didn't like it.

"Mitrovic, a player I thought was done playing Premier League football two years ago, was putting himself about like Didier Drogba - much to the dismay of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who got destroyed by the Serbia international for the first goal, and a Liverpool backline who had come for an easy life."

The Reds find themselves two points behind Premier League title rivals Manchester City after just one game after Pep Guardiola's team secured a 2-0 win against West Ham United on Sunday.

Liverpool's early season woes were compounded by an injury to key midfielder Thiago, which leaves Klopp short in the centre of the park. Speaking about the situation, the Reds boss said: "Look, a transfer must make sense now and in the long term; we have midfielders, we have still enough midfielders. It is not that we lack midfielders, but it's just some of them are injured.

"This is not a good situation, I don't like it at all, but we have to see how we react on that - but for sure not panicking."
