These Manchester pizzas could be named the best in the UK

We know we’ve got some of the best pizza in the country in Manchester, but we might be on the way to some national recognition at last, thanks to two particular pies. Rudy’s Pizza and Crazy Pedro’s have had two of their creations receive nominations in the National Pizza Awards.

City centre fave Pedro’s has received the nod for its rather unorthodox ‘chicken & waffle’ pizza. It comes laden with fried chicken, smoked bacon, maple syrup and waffles. Rudy’s offering, meanwhile, is a bit more traditional.

Its nomination is for the ‘Francesco’, a white pizza - so no tomato - with courgette cream base, topped with fior di latte, fresh ricotta and fresh basil. In all, the shortlist for Best Pizza is down to just 16 entries from around the country.

“The calibre of entries for the National Pizza Awards 2022 was so high that it made our job of selecting finalists more than a little tricky,” said Genna Ash-Brown, editor of Dine Out magazine, which organises the annual event.

“But this year’s line-up genuinely is our best yet. The finalists are preparing for battle as we get ready to fire up the ovens and count down the days until we showcase the very best pizza creations the industry has to offer. This is an event you won’t want to miss!”

It’s not just a case of the pizzas themselves being judged, however. Each restaurant will be required to participate in a head-to-head technical challenge, with a selection of ingredients, with the winner being crowned Pizza Chef of the Year.

Winners will be judged by a panel of industry experts, with the event taking place in Islington, North London, in November.
