A recent study broke down the brands with the cars most likely to reach 250,000 miles. Asian automakers dominated the top spots, but now a new report dives into the data to reveal which specific models are most likely to reach the quarter-million mark, excluding heavy trucks.
Cars from Toyota Motor Corporation pack the top 10 with six cars from Toyota and three from Lexus. According to iSeeCars’ latest study, the Toyota Sequoia has a 42.3 percent chance of hitting 250,000 miles, ahead of the Lexus LS (38.8%) and Toyota 4Runner (33.1%).
The Honda Accord Hybrid is the only non-Toyota car in the top 10, ranking 10th with an 18.5 percent chance. The HR-V is 11th (17.6%), while the Honda Civic ranks 15th (17.3%).
The first non-Asian car on the list is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which ranks 14th at 17.4 percent, while the first American brand is the Chevrolet Suburban at 24th, with just an 11.6 percent chance of hitting 250,000 miles.
iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer said:
'It’s clear Toyota and Honda have a corporate philosophy focused on durability and a long vehicle lifespan. But the military background of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, and the robust design and wide range of capabilities of Chevrolet’s Suburban, allow them to break into the top 27 rankings.'
At the bottom of the list are the Toyota Prius (11.5%), Toyota Camry Hybrid (11.5%), and the Honda Odyssey (10.7%). That is still nearly double the overall industry average of 5.4 percent chance of reaching a quarter million miles.
America’s Saving Grace: Trucks
American models fare better with their heavy-duty truck offerings, with the Ram 3500 ranking first among trucks at 31.9 percent. That would put it fourth on the overall list.
GMC also fares well. The GMC Sierra 3500 HD has a 26.2 percent chance of hitting 250,00 miles, while the Sierra 2500 HD has a 17.2 percent chance.
Ford’s F-350 and F-450 trucks have a 15.1 percent and 14.9 percent chance of hitting the milestone, respectively. The Ram 2500 (14.3%), Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD (14.1 percent), Ford F-250 (13.4%), and Silverado 3500HD surpass the overall truck average of 11.1 percent.
