- Brands like Mini, Fiat, and Maserati ranked at the bottom of the list.
Buying a new car is a massive investment. For many, it’s a necessity, and the smart move is to buy a car that will last longer than the loan. If you want the most bang for your buck, some brands last longer than others.
A new iSeeCars study reveals which brands are the most likely to reach 250,000 miles. It should come as no surprise that Asian automakers dominate the list, with Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Acura taking the top four spots.
iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer said:
‘Reaching 250,000 miles is an exceptionally high bar for any vehicle, which makes the distinction among the four highest-ranked brands meaningful.'
Toyota models have nearly a 20 percent chance of reaching a quarter-million miles. Cars from Lexus have a 14.4 percent chance of reaching the milestone. Honda is right behind Lexus at 13.3 percent, followed by Acura at 9.5 percent, all beating the industry’s overall average of a 5.4 percent chance.
Mainstream brands like Ford, Chevrolet, and Mazda ranked well, while German luxury brands fared worse. According to the study, BMW models have just a 0.5 percent chance of reaching 250,000 miles, matching Audi. Mercedes-Benz is better, with a 2.6 percent chance.
At the bottom of the list are brands like Jaguar, Mini, and Maserati. They have a 0.0 percent chance, while Fiat cars have a 0.2 percent chance. Other low-ranked brands include Porsche (0.3%), Land Rover (0.4%), Hyundai (0.8%), and Jeep (1.2%).
Bauer stresses that it’s important to remember that luxury cars aren’t driven as much as mainstream models. “For instance, Porsche’s low probability is more a reflection of lower use by Porsche owners than a lack of quality or durability,” he said.
