‘There Were Gasps… People Were Crying’: Tim Bano on Paddington’s stunning West End debut

Audiences fall in love with the beloved bear all over again - (Dave Benett)

West End audiences are falling in love all over again with everyone’s favourite bear as Paddington: The Musical makes its debut at the Savoy Theatre. From the very first moments, the show delivers emotional punch after emotional punch — including gasps, tears, and plenty of marmalade-fueled joy.

The heart-stopping moment comes just a few minutes into the production, when Paddington himself is revealed on stage. Theatre critic Tim Bano described the reaction as instant and intense. “There were gasps in the audience. There were people crying. It was an amazing moment,” he told The Standard.
