A stabbing attack was reported in Russia’s Ufa on Saturday, leaving several people injured, including four Indian students, the Indian Embassy confirmed.
In a statement, the embassy in Russia said an “unfortunate incident of attack” had taken place in Ufa and that it is in touch with local authorities. Officials from the Indian Consulate in Kazan are on their way to Ufa to assist the injured students.
According to local media reports, a teenager armed with a knife entered the sports hall of a foreign students’ hostel at a medical university and attacked students living there.
“The attacker resisted arrest, during which two police officers were stabbed. Furthermore, the suspect also inflicted bodily harm on himself,” Russia’s interior ministry spokesperson Maj Gen Irina Volk said.
The identities and nationalities of the students were not officially disclosed. However, Telegram channel 112, quoting eyewitnesses, said at least one of the victims was Indian and claimed there were two attackers.
The attacker, identified as a 15-year-old, has been admitted to a local children’s hospital in serious condition. Four students and two police officers were admitted to a local clinical hospital, Baza Telegram channel reported.
Eyewitnesses said there was “blood all around,” Ren TV reported, airing footage of the injured being taken to hospital in ambulances.
