There's lots to do at West Lothian attraction this half term

There’s lot’s to do at Almond Valley Heritage Centre in Livingston as we say goodbye to winter and look forward to spring.

From this weekend the centre has lots to do to keep kids of all ages amused for half term and beyond.

From February 11 to 20 get ready to experience the first tingles of spring every day from 10am to 5pm.

With springtime just around the corner and the first buds of flowers are beginning to show, children and their families can dash around the farm in search of the first signs of spring, then retreat to the warmth of the museum to create some springtime crafts.

Next there will be some Easter Eggcitement, from April 2nd to 24 (10am to 5pm).

The farm is alive with the cheeps and bleats of baby animals so grab your clue sheet, sharpen your pencil, and tear around the farm collecting clues on the springtime trail. Keep a lookout for hidden eggs that might win you a prize.

In the craft area you can make masks and other springtime decorations. The famous plastic duck race adds to the fun over the Easter weekend, from April 15 to 18.

Celebrate Brilliant Beltane/May Day Weekend between Saturday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 3 with Ancient May day celebrations by dressing the clootie tree and sending silly messages to the water spirits.

Beltane is the traditional celebration of the peak of spring and the beginning of summer It’s a time of new life and fresh beginnings after the bleakness and hardships of winter.

Bare branches sprout leaves and blossom, and there is fresh green pasture for animals to enjoy.

Many ancient spring traditions now form part of the Christian celebration of Easter, but there remains something special about the opening days of May when holidays provide opportunity to reflect on the wonders of nature, the cycle of the seasons, and our ancient past.
