China’s army will take part in a live-force humanitarian demining exercise in Russia under the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting-Plus framework. The drills will cover battlefield clearance, mechanical mine removal, mine-detection dogs and disposal of improvised explosive devices.
Sept. 7-11: U.S., Japan and South Korea hold joint drills
The U.S., Japan and South Korea will stage the “Freedom Edge” exercise in international waters east and south of Jeju Island. Air defense, anti-submarine warfare and ballistic missile response will be the main focus.

Sept. 9: U.S. Treasury expands bond buybacks
The U.S. Treasury’s increase in the maximum size of its liquidity support repurchase operations for long-term nominal coupon-bearing Treasurys will take effect Sept. 9. The single-operation limit has been raised from $2 billion to at least $4 billion for 10- to 20-year and 20- to 30-year Treasurys, with the adjustment lasting until Nov. 4.
