Aug. 24: U.S. to isolate Iran’s economy

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will hold a press conference to announce plans to economically isolate Iran and its trading partners. Bessent said he will detail measures the U.S. is prepared to take while stepping up pressure on allies to join the effort.

Aug. 25-28: China’s top legislature meets

The Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress will hold its 24th session in Beijing. The legislative agenda includes reviewing draft revisions to the Enterprise Bankruptcy Law, the Banking Supervision Law and the National Defense Mobilization Law.

Aug. 26: Baidu votes for primary listing conversion

Baidu Inc. will hold an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders to vote on a voluntary conversion of its secondary Hong Kong listing into a dual-primary listing on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Aug. 27: SK Hynix breaks ground on U.S. packaging plant

South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix Inc. will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new semiconductor packaging facility in Indiana. The company plans to invest $3.9 billion in the site, which will serve as its first advanced-packaging research and development base in the U.S. and produce high-bandwidth memory chips for artificial-intelligence applications.

Aug. 28: Warsh’s Jackson Hole debut

U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh will deliver a speech at the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium, marking his first address at the event since taking office. Warsh said he hopes to use the speech to outline major issues facing the central bank, including inflation targets, productivity, demographic shifts and global economic shocks.

Aug. 29: HarmonyOS ecosystem conference

The HEC 2026 conference will be held in Shenzhen from Aug. 29 to 30. Under the theme of new intelligent connectivity, the event will showcase the implementation of Huawei’s operating system across a range of industries.

Aug. 30: Pacific Islands Forum leaders’ meeting

The Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting will take place in Palau from Aug. 30 to Sept. 4. China’s Foreign Ministry urged the forum’s secretariat to adhere to the one-China principle and appropriately handle Taiwan-related issues to avoid affecting the healthy and stable development of relations between China and the forum.
