The Voice UK's Emma Willis upsets viewers with result announcement after vote complaints

Emma Willis sparked anger amongst viewers of The 'Voice UK as she announced the results of Saturday's final, after complaints about the voting for the ITV show.

After being back on screens for the last two months, The Voice crowned another winner this weekend, with just four singers left standing for the series finale. In the running for the 2022 crown were Naomi, Mark, Anthonia, and David. They each performed a solo track, before joining with their mentors for the popular duets round.

The collaborations saw Mark and Anne-Narie sing Spice Girls' number 1 Viva Forever together; Olly Murs sing Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me with David; Naomi and Will.I.Am team up on Beyonce's Crazy in Love, before Anthonia and her mentor Sir Tom Jones duetting on It's a Man's, Man's, Man's World. After the solo and duet round, the four contestants needed to be halved to two but, there was some confusion on how that was done.

While rival Saturday night talent show Strictly has a viewer vote, the outcome of The Voice final was determined by a vote of the studio audience and a virtual audience at home, in keeping to how it had worked over the Covid pandemic. But, given that Covid restrictions have long since been abolished, there was both confusion and annoyance that there was no opportunity for the public to vote.

It was down to Emma to first reveal that David and Anthonia had made it through to the final two, before Anthonia went onto win. And there was plenty of upset to both announcements on Twitter, as well as calls for ITV to change the voting format.

Reacting to Mark not even making the last two, one fumed: "How mark Howard hasn’t won the voice I will never know!" Echoing those sentiments, another tweeted: "Mark should have been in the final two, he's amazing!" There was an even bigger reaction when Emma called Anthonia winner, with one fan complaining about not being able to vote, writing: "There's a pattern going on in the UK at the moment where the public don't get to vote. Didn't get to vote for our Prime Minister or the Winner of the Voice."
