A beach in the UK that's reminiscent of the Caribbean has been listed as one of the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. Pedn Vounder beach is said to be perfect for a “tropical island inspired getaway” and even featured in the BBC drama series, Poldark.
Hidden away in the stunning cliffs of Tryn Dinas in Cornwall, its stand out features include the beautiful white sand and crystal clear turquoise waters.
Recently Big 7 Travel released their annual “50 Best Beaches in the World” rankings using aggregated stores from previous media results and official Blue Flag locations.
Pedn Vounder was the only UK beach to make the list, and once you see it, it comes as no surprise why it has made its way into an impressive eighth place.
As well as being dog friendly, the beach is also known as an unofficial nudist beach and is one of the most popular naturist beaches in Cornwall.
Coming in eighth place, the travel guide said: “G7 put the global spotlight on Cornwall last year and this year the region has seen sky-high bookings.
“Despite the crowds, Pedn Vounder is still one of the UK’s most beautiful beaches. Combining crystal clear blue water and white sand, it’s proof that you don’t need to hotfoot to the Caribbean for a tropical island inspired getaway.”
Cornwall Beaches says about Pedn: “Having become something of a poster child for Cornwall's most stunning beaches it has featured in national newspapers and is now well and truly on the tourist bucket list.
“In addition the beach here also featured in the recent TV adaptation of Poldark where it was used in a dream sequence of "Nampara Cove".
The beach has received glowing reviews by visitors on websites such as Cornwall Beaches and TripAdvisor.
One person who reviewed their trip to Pedn said: “Amazing beach, sheer paradise. Whether you are into baring it all or being more modest when you sunbathe, this is one you must visit.”
Another reviewer said: “Took the plunge several years back. What a delight. Beautiful crystal clear water and fairly gentle slope into sea (until high tide). Need to be quite agile to ascend very steep cliff path. Must go again some time. Complete mix of young and old. Best of all - everyone was naked!”
On TripAdvisor, one woman wrote: “You don't need to go abroad with beaches like this on your doorstep. This is the most beautiful hidden gem.
“Beautiful clear turquoise sea. No cafe or shop so take your own refreshments. It is a nudist beach so if you're easily offended...don't go.
“There were lots of families also. Both living in harmony. The climb up is not for the faint hearted but most definitely worth it. The views are breathtaking.”
Many say the climb down to the beach can be quite tricky however the views are worth the trouble.
