The town was once a flourishing shipbuilding centre and fishing port. Today, small local fishing and pleasure craft still come and go in the sheltered bay. New Quay’s beaches extend in a golden arc around the bay and are ideal for relaxing and strolling by the sea.
Pwllheli is a market town and community on the Llyn Peninsula in Gwynedd, north-western Wales. Known as the unofficial capital of the Llyn Peninsula, you can enjoy open-air markets and the town is full of character with its narrow streets which have many independent shops, boutiques, traditional pubs, cafes and restaurants, as well as award-winning fish and chips, traditional Welsh ice-cream and seaside rock.
The harbour has a long history as wines from the continent were imported through here and the coast was a haven for smugglers and pirates. Pwllheli's beaches are mainly south facing and have been awarded the prestigious European Blue Flag Award, while Pwllheli Marina is thought to be one of the best in Britain and has some 400 berths.
