The telling Rangers moment you may have missed as Gio van Bronckhorst salutes Roy Makaay amid Ibrox bedlam

Rangers assistant coach Roy Makaay has been given a special mention by Giovanni van Bronckhorst after their Europa League success against Braga.

James Tavernier's double looked to have sent the Ibrox side into a semi-final match with RB Leipzig after a 1-0 loss in the quarter-final first leg.

David Carmo's header put the game into extra-time but Kemar Roofe swept home Joe Aribo's cross to seal a first last four spot on the continent since 2004.

And it's when Makaay earned the approval of Rangers' boss.

BT Sport cameras caught van Bronckhorst celebrating what turned out to be the winner, pointing at Makaay amid the scenes of jubilation.

His predecessor, Steven Gerrard, relied heavily upon first-team coach Michael Beale and the Dutchman seems to have a similar relationship with his.

Makaay was a striker in his playing days and made over 100 appearances for Bayern Munich.

Roofe's run and finish had all the hallmarks of a penalty box predator and it could well be that Van Bronckhorst reckons it was Makaay's influence on the Jamaican that led to the goal.

Roofe was off and running as soon as Glen Kamara slipped in Aribo and was right on the spot to tap in his team-mate's ball across the box, very much like Makaay back in his prime.
