Manchester United might have left the number 21 shirt vacant in case Frenkie de Jong completes his long-winded switch to Old Trafford from Barcelona this summer.
Excitement is building at United as they prepare to begin a new era under Erik ten Hag and the Dutchman has now made his mark in the transfer market. Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez have been signed - and further targets are on the radar.
United continue their pursuit for De Jong after starting negotiations with Barcelona three months ago. Meanwhile, his preferred squad number remains unassigned to revive hopes he will eventually sign.
