The University of Virginia community is mourning three of their own following Sunday night’s horrifying news: Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry — all members of the UVA football team — were all killed by suspected shooter Christopher Darnell Jones Jr.
According to USA TODAY, Jones Jr. — who was listed on Virginia’s football roster in 2018 but didn’t play in any Cavaliers games — was taken into custody before 11 a.m. on Monday. Until that point, there was a shelter-in-place order for around 12 hours after the shooting.
The sports world — from NFL players to college coaches to journalists — responded with prayers. Here’s a sampling from Twitter on Monday:
Prayers to all @UVAFootball and campus as they deal with this tragedy. Hard to be prepared as a coach/teammate for this type of event.

I loved Lavel Davis.
Just a great kid. Wanted to be a great football player. Fought so hard to overcome an injury and get back on the field.
D’Sean Perry was a rising star. He had a chance to be special too.
Prayers to the families of these kids. Praying hard for everyone. 🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/Ym9eCOLYj4
