The soul of Faroe Islands caught in art

Artist Bill Bensley invites everyone to travel the world through humorous and vibrant artwork during "The Faroese Chronicle", which is running at the Art Space by Moca Bangkok at Four Seasons Hotel, Charoen Krung Road, until July 31.

The exhibition is a rather serious chronicle seen through the rose-tinted lens of the Faroese Knitting Club in the Faroe Islands, which Bensley has been visiting for 15 years and where he has built wonderful relationships with 11 quirky, sometimes simply stark staring mad, but profoundly sincere friends.

This self-governing archipelago is part of Denmark and comprises 18 rocky, volcanic islands scattered between Iceland and Norway in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The artist captures the soul of the Faroe Islands and its people through 38 paintings. Viewers will take away with them an understanding that the Faroe Islands is not just a remote picture postcard wilderness in the Arctic circle, but a close-knit society that hangs tenaciously on to its precious history perhaps more than anywhere in the world.

Bensley is a concerned conservationist and passionate philanthropist who works tirelessly to raise funds for the Shinta Mani Foundation outreach projects in Cambodia. Proceeds from this exhibition will also go to the foundation.

He will also be hosting an exclusive "Behind The Art" talk at the hotel's The Library at The Lounge, followed by a painting master class on May 20.
