Road closures will be put in place in Cardiff for the funeral of two teenage boys. Cardiff council has announced road closures in parts of Ely on Thursday, July 6 as thousands are anticipated to attend the joint funeral of Kyrees Sullivan and Harvey Evans.
As the funeral will be held at the Church of Resurrection on Grand Avenue in Ely at 1pm, the roads in the surrounding area will be closed from midday to 2pm. Ty Coch Road from the roundabout with Archer Road and Grand Avenue from its junction with Howell Road will be closed. These initial closures may be extended, depending on the scale of the event.
The friends of the two young boys who tragically lost their lives in a bike crash in May have organised two limousines, four hearses and eight Rolls Royce cars along with between 200 and 400 motorbikes for the procession. Schools in the area will be closing at the time of the funeral due to the high amount of people and traffic expected to attend.
Cardiff Bus have diverted their routes through Ely to accommodate the road closures. Services 13,15,17 and 18 will divert via Cowbridge Road West as bus stops along Grand Avenue, Green Farm Road, Heol-y-Felin, Mill Road, Plymouth Wood Road, Archer Road, Wilson Road and Snowden Road will not be in use during the road closures.
A statement from the Diocese of Llandaff previously said that because Kyrees and Harvey had been so close since nursery, the families felt it right that they also be buried together in the same grave. The Reverend Canon Jan Gould, who is minister at the church, said: “It’s important for the family especially, but actually for the whole community to have some closure now and to begin to move on. My hope is that moving on from this now the community can begin to rebuild. And hopefully the families will find some peace from the service.” You can read more here.
