A rice farmer went to the emergency department after a one-minute episode of shaking in the right arm and leg. An MRI showed a cluster of enhancing nodules with surrounding swelling in the left frontal lobe of the brain. Doctors at Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center in Manila published the images in The New England Journal of Medicine on Sept. 19, 2026, under the title "Cerebral Schistosomiasis."
The report, a short entry in the journal's Images in Clinical Medicine series, centers on the scan. The bigger story is what the parasite behind it can live in.
