The One Show forced to shake up presenters after Jermaine Jenas tests positive for Covid

TV presenter Jermaine Jenas has tested positive with Covid, meaning viewers can expect a different line-up this week on The One Show.

The ex football pro, 39, was expected to host today's episode of the BBC One programme, but fans were greeted by Angellica Bell and Lauren Laverne instead.

Breaking the news, Lauren said: "Covid's back in the news today. Boris Johnson's just announced all restrictions are lifting in England. However, on our team we've been talking about the fact that Jermaine's tested positive. Flipping heck."

She added: "So he won't be here for the rest of the week. Get well soon, mate."

Jermaine played for Spurs and Newcastle and is now a well known BBC host and TV pundit.

Himself, Alex Jones and Ronan Keating are the most regular presenters on The One Show, which airs on BBC One every weekday.

Last Thursday, Rylan Clark co-hosted alongside Alex, where he addressed recent concerns about his health, admitting that whilst he's had a "dodgy time" lately, he is now feeling better amid his return to work.

Alex Jones has been on The One Show since 2010, but did not host today's host (PA)

The presenter revealed to fans that he had ended up in hospital recently, with him having pulled out of his BBC Radio 2 show in recent weeks due to the flu.

The Celebrity Big Brother winner has also been open lately about having struggled with his mental health following his separation from husband Dan Neal last year.

This isn't the first time the line-up has changed on The One Show due to Covid-19. Back when the pandemic began in March 2020, Alex, who has been on the show since 2010, was forced to present by herself while Matt Baker was in self-isolation.

Matt, however, was able to appear from his living room.

Ahead of The One Show's broadcast this afternoon, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the scrapping of remaining Covid restrictions.

The free testing regime is set to be wound down from April, except for the most vulnerable.
