Thousands of households across Greater Manchester will receive a £301 cost of living payment this Spring from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). It’s the first instalment of three payments which will be issued this year and next, totalling £900.
The DWP has released an update on the number of households eligible to receive the money as it set out more details in Parliament earlier this week. More than eight million benefit claimants are estimated to receive the payment.
Although a specific date has yet to be announced, the first payment will be made this spring with a second instalment of £300 expected in the Autumn. A third payment of £299 will be made in Spring 2024. Those eligible for the payments include people on Universal Credit, Income Support and Tax Credits.

As well as the cost of living payments, the government will also issue a £150 disability payment to those on disability payments which will be paid in the summer. While those receiving state pensions will receive a £300 payment this winter.
Under the payment plan an eligible person could receive support reaching up to £1,350. More than 6.7 million people are estimated to receive the disability payment this summer, which will be paid to those on Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance and other disability benefits.
Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride said: “These direct payments will help people right across the UK over this year and the start of the next, as we continue to provide consistent, targeted and substantial support for the most vulnerable.
“Our wider support package, including the Energy Price Guarantee, will ensure every household is being helped through this challenging period of high inflation, caused by Putin’s illegal war and the aftershocks of the pandemic.”
