The Nottingham restaurants you think deserve a Michelin Star

Nottinghamshire Live readers have given their thoughts on which restaurants deserve a Michelin Star - and some places kept being mentioned.

On Wednesday, February 16, Michelin Guide announced that two Nottingham restaurants would retain their stars.

Restaurant Sat Bains, in Lenton Lane, kept its two stars, meaning it remained the city's most highly decorated restaurant.

Alchemilla, in Derby Road, also preserved its prestige of one Michelin Star, which was awarded in 2019.

Despite Nottingham already benefiting from having two highly-regarded eateries, Nottinghamshire Live asked readers which other restaurants, either in the city or wider county, should receive similar distinction.

The comments weren't short of suggestions. One of the most commonly mentioned restaurants was La Rock, which is based in Bridge Street in Sandiacre, on the Derbyshire border, and specialises in English cuisine "with a global edge".

"Definitely La Rock restaurant without a doubt," commented Peter Gillespie.

Darren Bonser added: "La rock restaurant great food good service."

The establishment has a healthy rating of 4.5 on TripAdvisor and Michelin Guide has in fact offered its point of view on it.

It describes La Rock as: "Charming, personally-run restaurant with an airy feel – it was once a butcher’s. Exposed brick walls and antler chandeliers feature.

"Cooking combines classical flavours with modern techniques; home-grown fruits are well utilised."

Another frequently mentioned restaurant was Paris, situated in High Pavement in Nottingham city centre.

Shelley Prescott said in a comment: "Paris... beautiful food and not overpriced like some."

It's a self-described contemporary and stylish bar and restaurant, which also boasts a 4.5 rating on TripAdvisor.

One of the most recent reviews reads: "I think it’s my new favourite place to go in our home town, keep doing what you’re doing. I rarely leave reviews but this was worth taking time out."

Another restaurant, Yamas Meze & Tapas, a Greek restaurant which is situated in Thurland Street, also proved popular.

It did not get as many comments of support, however, a recommendation of the eatery by Mary Marmion got 48 thumbs up.

She said in a reply: "We go quite often every couple of months, actually going Saturday after the matinee at the theatre, never disappoints."

Bobbers Mill Cafe, in Nuthall Road, was also shown a lot of support.

Clive Prescott, to the tune of around 20 likes, said: "Their SOS meat doorsteps are better than any fancy expensive rubbish at Michelin star places."

Glenda Capon Blore replied: "Fantastic food at a great price. My dad used to go in for his dinner when he got older and didn't want to cook."
