The next game from OG Assassin's Creed director has a new trailer, 15 years after development originally began

FGS.

15 years after development originally began, the next game from a veteran Assassin's Creed director has a new trailer as part of the Future Games Show Summer Showcase.

1666 Amsterdam is the next game from Patrice Desilets, creative director of the first two Assassin's Creed games, as well as Metal Gear Solid 4 and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. A dark, gothic tale set as the title suggests in 17th-century Europe, it's Desilet's first new game in seven years, since the release of 2019's Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.

The trailer introduces us to the backstory of 1666 Amsterdam, in which ancient tribes would gather together in a sacred place. One of those tribes, the Zaindaris, was entrusted with an ancient form of magic, and given the duty to pass it down to future disciples capable of wielding it.

As with any cultish, magical ritual however, it seems that not everything went according to plan. Power corrupts, and the Zaindaris who once bestowed the magic want to take it back from those who have proved themselves unworthy. Enter protagonist Noa, a Zaindaris heir set to become 'the Collector'. Working alongside a feline companion in a nod to 1666 Amsterdam's magical abilities, Noa will be part of 'the Union' attempting to restore balance to the world.

1666 Amsterdam doesn't have a release date yet, but it's available to wishlist now on Steam via PC and the Epic Games Store, where you can also play the game's prologue.
