The new sustainable department store set to open in Cardiff

A new sustainable department store has launched in Cardiff. Yellow: The Social Enterprise claims to be Wales' first sustainable department store, offering a paperless and plastic-free shopping experience in the capital.

Yellow TSE is a plastic-free, zero-waste department store which looks to provide a "paperless shopping experience." The department store has opened in Pontcanna Mews and is set to open at a unit in the Morgan Arcade soon. The store includes pop-up spaces and concessions for social enterprises. The department store also has a "self-checkout" app that allows you to scan, weigh, and pay for your shopping.

"Pre-arrange your weekly supplies using a state-of-the-art app, centred around customer convenience, and collect them from town on your lunch break! Grab a coffee and get some work done while you're at it, in our collaborative work space area," a post on their Facebook page reads.

The department store is founded by Tamsin Ford who also owns gift shop blossom and nectar in Pontcanna. The venue is set to open in May 2022, featuring art from Katherine Jones Artist, and other local sustainable businesses as concessions. Its city-centre location will also have a work space, and café.

The Morgan Quarter venue will undergo sustainable construction work from Sampson Carpentry & Build, who have worked with businesses such as Kin & Ilk to deliver sustainable fittings. Tanya Lynch, the creative director and expert connector for Yellow TSE, said: "The journey about Yellow TSE is one story I’m so proud to be a part of.

"So far it’s required a lot of blood, sweat and tears and an unbelievable amount of patience. Our founder Tams is one remarkable human being who is carving the way for a better and more sustainable shopping experience. It takes passion, grit and dedication to launch such an epic business venture. Tams and her team will bring a department store like no other to the streets of South Wales. I do believe the people of Cardiff will love what Yellow has to offer."
