Banks have been rapidly disappearing from the UK's cities, towns and villages in recent years as consumer habits change. A recent Which? survey suggested that a total of 5,355 bank and building society branches had been shut down since January 2015.
And for those that still rely on them, the news for 2023 is not encouraging. As it stands, there are already 193 outlets scheduled to be closed for good. That figure could increase.
HSBC has plans to close 114 branches in 2023 - around a quarter of its remaining sites. Lloyds is shutting another 14, while NatWest is planning 43 closures, reports the Mirror.
