The National to livestream Dior fashion show being held in Scotland

THE French fashion house Dior is set to hold its first fashion show in Scotland for almost 70 years.

Legendary designer Christian Dior first displayed his work in Scotland back in 1955.

It was one of two fashion shows held in Scotland by the charity Friends of France, which was set up during World War II.

A runway show was held in the ballroom of the Gleneagles Hotel, which was then followed by a ceilidh.

Eight models, six staff and more than 170 dresses were flown by private plane from France for the event, which also required the construction of a specially built runway.

Dior spent some time in Scotland after the show and noted his love for the country in his 1956 biography.

"I lingered a little in Scotland," he wrote.

"I had heard so much about its beauty that I had feared to be disappointed - on the contrary, I was even more struck by the beauty of the country, the castles, and the moors, than I had expected."

On June 3, the fashion house will once again hold a fashion show in Scotland.

The brand’s Cruise 2025 ready-to-wear show will take place in the grounds of Drummond Castle in Perthshire and will be livestreamed on The National’s website.

A Dior spokesperson said:

"Dior has chosen the gardens of Drummond Castle, a historic architectural treasure, to reveal the silhouettes dreamed up by Maria Grazia Chiuri [creative director of Dior]," they said.

“[It is] a poetic invitation where the past and future meets, celebrating the unique, powerful, ties forged from the very beginnings of the House, for the autumn-winter 1947 défilé.

“The founding-couturier named an emblematic haute couture ensemble ‘Écosse’ on that occasion.

“Such affinities were further affirmed during a sumptuous ball orchestrated at Gleneagles Hotel for the spring-summer 1955 collection.”
