The much-loved Edinburgh cafe tourists always come back to when in town

Edinburgh is home to some incredible restaurants, cafés and bars, and it's one of the reasons people come back again and again as well as making it such a pleasurable place to live.

One much-loved cafe, in particular, has been making a huge impression on people who visit, with both residents and tourists alike praising it to the high heavens.

Salt Cafe, in Morningside, was started during the pandemic by wife and husband team Liv and Steve Connolly Bastock and has become so popular they have since opened two other 'A Pinch of Salt' Police Boxes.

However, it's their original site on Morningside Road that really shines on review sites like Tripadvisor and Google where it's regularly named as one of the go-to spots for brunch in the city.

Scoring an impressive 4.6 rating on Google and with 450 Reviews on Tripadvisor, 96% of which are 'Very Good or Excellent' people have been raving about it online, with many visitors to the city saying it's now their go-to spot they come back to "again and again" when visiting Edinburgh.

So much so, that in 2021, it was even named a 2021 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Award Winner, placing it among some of the best-reviewed eateries from around the globe.

Some reviewers have named it the "best brunch in Edinburgh" while others hailed its vegan and gluten-free options.

One fan wrote on Tripadvisor: "The food was awesome. My husband also worked in a butchers said it was the best Scottish breakfast he had. The Eton mess on French toast was unbelievable, perfect for a sweet tooth. The drinks are unique to the cafe and were sweet and refreshing. I can’t wait to go back."

While another added: "I'm a fancy California girl, so my expectations are high. But this place blew me away! The food was delicious and beautiful! The Lost Bread and Leeks with Eggs are top-notch--as is ALL the food. Great matcha and yummy iced teas.

"Even the granola is perfect. And the butter--oh my goodness. Get a double order. Staff was super. Book your spot so you don't miss out!"

One impressed tourist on Google posted: "This place is literally one of the highlights of my Edinburgh trip! As a Turk, when it comes to breakfast my standards are very high but Salt Café definitely is up to it! The owners are amazing, the place is extremely clean, incredible food, and friendly staff! Can’t recommend this place enough! PS: Amazing Turkish eggs, definitely approved"

With another visitor to the city adding: "Absolute gem of a place serving the most delicious brunch. Every bit of food was exceptional quality and cooked to perfection. Great choice of dishes. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to go back!"
