The Most Stylish Landings I Know Have This One Color Combination in Common – And Raheem Sterling's Space Is My Dream Blueprint

Raheem Sterling.

Black and white, the most trusted color combination of all, is an anti-trend anecdote that often thrives in celebrity kitchens, living rooms, and entryways. However, Raheem Sterling's scheme has reminded me of its power in an often overlooked space: The landing.

The England football player shared his minimalist, monochromatic landing, complete with a black-painted railing and a beautiful double chandelier that hangs above his entryway. The space is ultra sleek and pared-back in its decor, yet it feels beautifully curated.

There isn't a need for large amounts of furniture and color. Instead, the black-and-white palette takes center stage, reminding me of just how stunning this contrast can be when left alone to shine.

Painting your walls and banisters, and installing a sculptural chandelier (much like this Chandelier from Wayfair) are the most effective ways to achieve Raheem's look. However, you can still experiment with this palette in any landing with monochromatic accessories. I've listed some of my current favorites below.

Plus, I am not alone in my admiration for this timeless color pairing. Eric Bramlett, a realtor and owner of Bramlett Real Estate, similarly recommends experimenting with this combination in transitional spaces – whether it's a landing like Raheem's, or an entryway.

'Over two decades in development, brokerage, and interior design, I have found one small truth that keeps paying dividends for my clients: a hallway dressed in cream or soft white never feels dated. Nothing beats walking a buyer through a bright passage that simply feels right,' he comments.

Raheem has kept his space minimal. However, if you do want to introduce more furniture and accessories, Eric explains that the color offers the ultimate canvas.

'These quiet hues work in every architectural era. A classic limestone bungalow, a sleek downtown condo, or a fresh build in the suburbs can all share the same painted corridor without jarring the eye. Because the color sits in the safe center of the palette, owners can change furniture, art, or flooring over the years, and the hallway keeps pace. That flexibility protects resale value, a detail every seller thanks me for when offers start coming in,' he says.

Ultimately, Raheem's landing proves that transitional spaces deserve just as much intention as the rooms they connect. By stripping back color and furniture, black and white is allowed to do what it does best: bring clarity, elegance, and longevity to a space that’s often passed through but rarely celebrated. His home, however, has just changed how I see this space for good.
