The most hated slang words in Nottinghamshire

Slang is part of our everyday language but there are some words that people simply can't stand. According to a survey by language learning platform Preply the UK's most annoying slang word is 'innit', closely followed by the term 'bird' when used to refer to women in a sexist manner.

'Bevvy', 'minging' and 'bog' are next on the list on words that make our hackles rise. Nottinghamshire Live readers chipped in with the words and phrases that irritate them the most.

Rich Evans said: "Hospickle, and ickle. The use of these should come with a custodial sentence," while Patrick Carlisle said: "People who include yea in every sentence then refer to everything as guy, it grinds me down."

Anne Hammond isn't a fan of this saying: "When people add into their sentence ‘I’m not gonna lie’ makes me think that sometimes they do then but just not this time," and in a similar vein Valerie Chorley posted: "My hate saying is 'to be honest'. Makes me feel I have been lied to for a while."

Saying things are 'sick' when they really mean awesome really riles Sally Wolf and for Colin Everton Lyth it's people who begin a sentence with 'so'. The word 'brah' gets Victoria Meaburn's back up while for Sarah Fave Godfrey it's 'do you gemeh?'

Mispronunciation rankles Margaret Feeney especially: "Somethink instead of something and could of instead of could have," and this is the one that irritates Russel Bradley: "People who say 'you know' every third word. If I knew there would be no point in listening."

Philip John said: "I hate it when people use the word 'literally' in the wrong context. And why do certain people use 'like' so much?" Steve Hodgkinson commented: "Surely ‘fam’ deserves a mention, while Matt Coty Bradley waded in with "Emosh bae etc are a lot worse lol."

Baden Cocker Harrison said: "I'm a barber and hear the endless shouts of 'yes bro'. I just stick to the old school good morning sir."
