The Masked Singer's Joel Dommett was tricked into performing sex acts on camera by catfish before he was famous

Joel Dommett has revealed that he was tricked into performing lewd acts on camera before he shot to fame.

Joel, 36, who is from Rockhampton in South Gloucestershire, became something of a household name following his appearance in the jungle for I'm a Celebrity's 2017 series, The Mirror reports.

But the presenter of The Masked Singer could have seen his glitzy television career go south before it had even taken off as an explicit video was leaked online when he was in his 20s.

Joel has now joked about the traumatic event to The Sun, which he has laughed off as 'porno Gogglebox'.

According to the Skins actor, he had no idea that the attractive woman who contacted him online would not turn out to be who she claimed to be.

'Staci Taylor', as Joel was told she was called, had created a profile to humiliate the star, and asked him if he wanted to partake in 'Skype sex'.

Opening up about the situation, he told The Sun: "I thought for a second, then immediately typed: 'Why not?!'

Joel experienced the traumatic event in his 20s, long before he was married to Hannah Cooper (Jonathan Brady/PA)

"She then replied: 'My microphone is broken so I won't be able to chat, we will just be able to see each other. That OK?'

"I said, 'Yes'. Possibly out of politeness, possibly out of the terrible randiness-to-reason ratio we all suffer from at times of heightened sexuality."

But things went to bad from worse when Joel heard nothing from 'Staci' after the deed had been done, despite sending several messages to the account.

A few years later, and Joel had started whizzing his way towards stardom, with several television appearances under his belt. But then, an account called CelebrityBusted started following him on social media.

Joel said he thought to himself: "Why would anyone have naked pictures of me?

"And then I thought, 'No, Staci, no!', and then, 'No, I'm so stupid' — and finally I realised it was obviously a fake person."

Police said they would investigate after he contacted the local authorities and asked them to get involved. Thankfully, there was a happy ending after all, as Joel was able to find out who 'Staci' really was.

Now, Joel will never have to worry about being catfished by fake profiles online again, as he is happily married to his wife Hannah Cooper.
