It was the turn of Fawn, Jacket Potato, Pigeon, Rhino and Rubbish to become festival headliners on Saturday night's The Masked Singer, and the latest celeb was unmasked as they were eliminated from the competition. Jaws dropped as the lid was lifted on Rubbish at the end of episode four (January 21) of the wacky ITV guessing game.
Rubbish became the next colourful character to go home as the star panel and viewers watching at home attempted to work out the identity of the celebs singing in disguise in an elaborate costume. And it was unexpected reveal as it turned out to be legendary snooker player Stephen Hendry.
Stephen dominated the sport during the nineties and became one of the most successful players in its history. After turning professional in 1985 at the age of 16, he rose rapidly through the snooker world rankings

He was awarded an MBE in 1994 and he and Ronnie O'Sullivan jointly hold the record for the most World Snooker Championship titles with seven. On taking part, 'King of the Crucible' Stephen, 54, said: “I thought it was so obvious because it was me." He continued: “I love the show and its way out of my comfort zone so I thought why not let's give it a go.”
He said about his character: "I loved the character. When choosing it, I instinctively thought the design and colours of Rubbish looked like Snooker Balls and so it jumped out at me. It was a really fun character."
Fans, who thought it might be a snooker player from the clues presented, were gobsmacked as they clocked who it was. @whoisshe tweeted: "Defo would not have got that lol." @SooozeKerr gasped: "Wow!! I was NOT expecting Hendry (O’Sullivan or Davis, but hadn’t thought of Stephen)."
@atvfriend said: "Snooker Legend is Stephen Hendry that's so brilliant." @Matt528chap exclaimed with a 'what?' gif: "Rubbish is....... Stephen Hendry!" And @socialmediajon1 joked: "Oh my god my other half just asked who Stephen Hendry is. I’m going to have to end this relationship right now ffs."
Next Saturday, Knitting, Jellyfish, Otter, Phoenix, Fawn, Jacket Potato, Pigeon and Rhino will be taking to the stage to sing in disguise. The Masked Singer, Saturdays at 7pm on ITV1 & ITVX
