With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, one Manchester restaurant has been named among the most romantic in the land. Bookings folk OpenTable have analysed the reviews left by users on their site, and distilled the UK’s top 100 spots for the best candlelit dinner.
Scooping the title for Manchester is none other than Hawksmoor, the wood-panelled Deansgate outpost of the much-loved steakhouse chain. OpenTable says that it analysed over a million reviews to create the top 100 list.

There are other restaurants nearby that have made the list too. La Mancha Tapas Bar in Rochdale also features on the list, and which boasts an impressive 4.7 out of five stars by visitors.
Meanwhile, The Cherry Tree outside Adlington, near Bolton, is also on the list, while further afield, Gary Usher’s Sticky Walnut in Chester gets a nod, as does Duck Goose in Leek.
Yorkshire takes the top spot for the most romantic restaurants in the top 100, with a dominating 33 locations, topping London, which has only 17.
Another survey conducted by OpenTable crunched numbers and found that Britons heading out for Valentine’s Day will spend on average £65 per person on dinner.
Robin Chiang, VP of Global Sales and Services, OpenTable said: “As the industry continues to face headwinds, it's fantastic to see the majority of Brits have plans to dine out for Valentine’s Day.
“For those planning to dine out for the occasion, the time to book is now: our 2022 data shows that more than half of reservations were in by the 7th February.”
