The Loop: Biloela family to arrive home today, US Capitol riot findings to be revealed live, and an NBA conspiracy theory

Hi there. It's Friday, June 10 and you're reading The Loop, a quick look at today's news.

Let's start here: The Biloela family is returning home today

The four members of the Tamil asylum seeker family at the centre of a decade-long immigration battle are due to complete the journey back to their adopted hometown of Biloela in rural Queensland today.

The Nadesalingam family flew out of Perth on Wednesday before landing in Brisbane and moving on to Biloela, where they will live in the community on bridging visas while their immigration case is resolved in court.

Priya, Nades and their daughters Kopica and Tharnicaa are due to be welcomed by locals and campaigners, with decorations and "welcome home" signs ready to go.

We'll be bringing you the latest with a live blog of their arrival from about 1:30pm AEST today.

What you'll be hearing about today: US Capitol riot findings

The United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack has been investigating the Capitol riots for almost a year.

  • Today it will reveal its findings in a rare live-streamed hearing, and several members of the committee have already promised new and explosive information
  • The hearings will be shown from 10am AEST today and we'll be bringing you all the latest with a live blog on the ABC News website
  • You can learn more about what went down and what we're expecting to hear in this article

News while you snoozed

  • Two Britons and a Moroccan who were captured while fighting for Ukraine have been sentenced to death by a court in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, one of Russia's proxies in eastern Ukraine. The three men were captured while fighting for Ukraine against Russia and Russian-backed forces. Their lawyer said they would appeal the decision, while British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said the court's decision was a "sham judgement"

  • There's been anger from a number of officials and academics after former defence minister — and now Opposition Leader — Peter Dutton used an opinion piece in The Australian to divulge sensitive discussions with the United States on acquiring nuclear-powered submarines. His assertions have sparked concern that he may have jeopardised plans for a joint agreement with the US by year's end

Here's what Australia has been searching for online

  • LIV Golf. Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and other PGA Tour members who teed off in the Saudi-funded golf league on Thursday have been banned from participating in PGA Tour events. LIV Golf, which is run by Australian Greg Norman and funded by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, responded to the tour's decision by calling it vindictive and divisive
  • An NBA conspiracy theory. The internet has been awash with conspiracy theories after one of the basketball hoops which was set to be used in Game 3 of the NBA Finals in Boston between the hometown Celtics and the visiting Golden State Warriors was found to be a couple of inches higher than the regulation 10 feet. The error was discovered by Warriors players as they warmed up around 90 minutes before tip-off, and while there's been conspiracy theories ever since, at least it was fixed before the game started! Boston went on to win the game, and are up 2-1 in the best of seven series

One more thing!

DALL·E mini, an artificial intelligence program that generates images using any text prompt, is going viral on Twitter as people create weird and wonderful art of everything from 'Boris Johnson eating fish' to 'Jabba the Hutt speaking before congress'.

The model is a more homemade version of OpenAI's super-impressive but not publicly available DALL·E 2 system, and it's producing some great (and hilarious) results.
