'Longest drop goal we've ever seen' leaves BT Sport commentators stunned on air

Gloucester and Scotland fly-half Adam Hastings left BT Sport's commentators stunned with an "extraordinary" match-winning drop goal from inside his own half on Friday night.

Hastings, who is set to lead Scotland's attack this autumn after being picked ahead of Finn Russell, unleashed the monster 53m kick in the 22-21 win over London Irish.

Confused commentators Nick Mullins and Austin Healey initially thought Hastings was kicking into space before realising it was an outrageous three-pointer that just made it over the posts. Mullins shouted: "Oh, no!" in disbelief, with Healey adding: "Oh my God, that was unbelievable."

Referee Matthew Carley had to call on the TMO to check the ball had cleared the crossbar, with Mullins adding: "Honestly, if that has gone over it came all the way from Kew Gardens about half a mile away!"

Healey said: "That might actually be the longest drop goal we have ever seen."

Post-match, Hastings said: "I thought I had made a decent contact. I had hit two in the warm-up from similar distance so I felt confident. It was actually a bit of a hangin one but they all count."

Hastings called it 'hangin' but a delighted Cherry and Whites head coach George Skivington described the drop goal as 'beautiful,' while man of the match Val Rapava-Ruskin said: "I have never seen a drop goal like that, he [Adam Hastings] is a very talented player and he pulls off some amazing things. We are very lucky to have him."
