A little-known beach has been voted the best in the UK - and it's not in the West Country
While the South West boasts some of the most stunning coastlines in Europe, TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2023 has ranked a spot on the UK's east side as the most popular.
Taking the top spot for the best British beach was Gorleston-on-Sea in Norfolk, which came in 12th place in Europe's best beaches as well. The seaside town is a hidden gem, offering three miles of beautiful sandy shores.

One avid beach-goer left a TripAdvisor review saying: "This has to be one of the finest beaches in the UK - and I have visited most."
Another reviewer said: "Regular visitors of this beach and pier, sometimes we don’t even get out the car, just get a bag of chips, pick a great parking spot with incredible views and watch the waves crash against the side of the pier during a storm.
"On fairer days we like to fish from the pier and/or walk the dogs on the beach, there are cafes nearby that are very reasonably priced, public toilets that are cleaned regularly and plenty of places to purchase hot drinks or ice cream! We will continue to visit this special little place for many years to come."
Claiming the top space, for the best beach in Europe was Iceland's Reynisfjara. The stunning coastline has towering rocks climbing out of the blue waters.
One reviewer said: "Stunning beach. Breathtaking views. If the weather is bad and cloudy, the beach is even more beautiful. Don’t miss this unique beach!"
A second wrote: "Captivating view and rock formations. The waves can be rough, and some tourists who went too close did get quite wet. Be wary please."
