Nintendo has confirmed the rumors: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is coming later this year.
Earlier this year, we got a blowout of info from leaker Nate the Hate, which was headlined by news of a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, and after the surprise announcement of Star Fox, fans figured it was all but confirmed. And here we are, in today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has confirmed that the 1998 classic is being remade, and it's coming out in 2026
We don't know much about it so far, but we can say that the new version of the game features voice acting, as the trailer opens with what is presumably the Great Deku Tree narrating the opening of the original game, and speaking about the Kokiri and that one boy who didn't yet have a fairy.
We also know that the game will have a semi-realistic art style (at least compared to what we saw from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom). Unfortunately, we didn't actually see anything from the game itself on the gameplay front, but we got a shot of Link as he sleeps at the beginning of the game.
Nintendo did not confirm an exact date for this remake either, with a simple 2026 appearing at the end of the trailer. And other than saying "Ocarina of Time will be reborn on Switch 2" and that "more details will be announced in the future," Yoshiaki Koizumi – who hosted the direct – didn't have much else to say about the remake. Hopefully, we see something in the Nintendo Treehouse, but given how little we saw, I'm not holding my breath.
