The Leader podcast: 900 years of Barts

On 25th March 1123 a former courtier of Henry I, a man called Rahere, founded St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

Barts has remained a fixture of the capital for nine centuries, through some of the toughest moments of British history; the Great Fire of London, World War II and the Covid-19 pandemic.

The site has been home to pivotal figures in medicine, providing care for the people of London.

It’s now a much-loved specialist heart and cancer centre and part of east London's Barts Health NHS Trust.

In this special episode to mark 900 years, Kate Jarman, Trust Archivist for Barts Health NHS Trust, takes us on a journey through the archives and some of the most defining moments of the hospital’s incredible history.

You can find more about the anniversary via their website: https://barts900.org/
