Coronavirus infection rates continue to plummet across Greater Manchester, with all areas experiencing week-on-week decreases of at least 30 per cent. In all but one of our region's ten boroughs, infection rates are below the national average for England.
Wigan is the only area above the national average, and has the highest infection rates within Greater Manchester. The town's infection rate currently stands at 121.9 cases per 100,000 people.
The lowest infection rates are in Manchester, where the current infection rate is 81.7 cases per 100,000 people. In the week to May 1, a total of 2,809 people tested positive for the virus, a 37 per cent decrease on the previous seven days.
Hospital admissions
A total of 373 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19 in the week ending on May 1. That is 49 fewer than the week before, a fall of 15 percent. On Tuesday, May 3, there were 17 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is the same as a week earlier.

Deaths
In the week ending May 1, a total of 43 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 15 fewer than the week before. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 989,058 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 9,237 deaths.
Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs
In Oldham 209 people tested positive in the week ending April 30, 114 fewer than the past week. There was a weekly fall of 35 per cent.
A total of 269 people tested positive across Trafford , 144 fewer cases than the previous seven days. Compared with the week earlier cases fell by 35 per cent.
In Bolton there were 269 positive tests, 180 fewer than the previous week. Cases were down by 40 per cent week-on-week.
In Stockport , 327 people tested positive, 220 fewer than the previous week. There was a weekly fall of 40 per cent.
Tameside recorded 214 coronavirus cases, which is 127 fewer than in the previous seven days. Cases decreased by 37 per cent week-on-week.
In Manchester , 454 people tested positive, 265 fewer than the week before, a weekly decrease of 37 per cent.
In Salford cases fell by 43 per cent, after 253 people tested positive, 188 fewer than the previous seven days.
There were 403 cases recorded in Wigan , 175 fewer than the previous week, representing a fall of 30 per cent.
In Bury , the number of cases was down by 39 per cent compared to the previous week. There were 193 positive tests, 121 fewer than the previous seven days.
Rochdale recorded 218 positive tests, 102 fewer than the previous week. Cases fell week-on-week by 32 per cent.
