With the 2024 NFL Draft order set — at least the first 18 picks at the moment, with the rest coming as playoff teams lose — NFL mock draft season has truly kicked off.
And the folks at Pro Football Focus have a mock draft in which there are so many quarterbacks taken … in just the first 11 picks.
Our Christian D’Andrea had just two QBs — USC’s Caleb Williams and North Carolina’s Drake Maye — in the first round of his first mock draft. But here you’ve got Williams (Bears), Maye (Commanders), Jayden Daniels (Patriots), Michael Penix Jr. (Falcons) and Bo Nix (Vikings) all going in the first round.
Here’s the reasoning behind Williams to Chicago:
Quarterback Justin Fields is playing some of the best ball of his NFL career. Perhaps that sways the Bears to trade the top pick for the second year in a row and acquire even more premium selections. Ultimately, I think they will reset their rookie quarterback contract window and trade Fields for a nice return. This draft process will be fascinating when it comes to the quarterback debate, but I still say Williams is the top prospect.
