The kind Celtic star who made fans' night by signing scarves and SHOES earns acclaim – Hotline

The rumour mill is in full swing as we head in to the last few weeks of the transfer window and Celtic’s Josip Juranovic is the latest to be linked with a big move.

A couple of English big guns are said to be circling but Rangers fans are scoffing at chat of a £15million plus fee – as they reckon their man James Tavernier is tops. Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “I see the nonsense has started again with stories about last season's understudy to Anthony Ralston, Juranovic wanted by Man Utd and Chelsea. “Imagine Celtic had a right back who finished the Europa League top scorer whilst captaining his team all the way to the final, What would his value be?"

Kenny Goff emailed: “Celtic asking £15m for a player who struggles to get in their team. They should change their name to Rip-off Merchants FC. Meanwhile, fans are still glowing after their Champions League comeback win against Union Saint-Gilloise and already looking forward to the PSV shootout. Gordon Hendry, Ochiltree, said: “We will need a Dortmund or Leipzig performance to get past PSV who will think this is an easy tie by their standards. Let’s hope we can prove them wrong and get Ibrox bouncing once again.”

Celtic fans have been a bit sniffy about the Belgian bashing but Robert Livingston, Palm Beach, said: “Caller Tam Williamson is right, nobody had really heard of Union SG. Similarly, no one had heard of Bodo/Glimt, the only difference the Gers beat the team no one had heard about. I hope Rangers, Celtic, Hearts and Dundee united are all successful; it can only be good for Scottish football.”

Robert Hoey, Kirkintilloch, said: “Coming back from two goals down was a first for us and should be applauded. I’m pretty sure losing to unknowns Bodo/Glimt comfortably home and away should be more worrying for you, with all the teams in the Champions League hoping to Celtic in the draw.”

John Bruce, Glasgow , said: “Rangers and Dundee United are the only Scottish sides to register European victories in the calendar year, which has lifted the profile of Scottish football and raised the coefficient. Isn't it ironic that it's the club with the awful European form, and who were also the first ever team to be eliminated from three competitions in one season, who have benefited the most by going straight in to the Champions League group stage this year?”

There’s no backing down though and Colin McArdle, Lanarkshire, said: “Union SG are a mediocre outfit that couldn't beat carpets. Watching a team like them on a regular basis would fog your brain, and yet had they not gifted Rangers a shambolic penalty they would be playing PSV in the next round. Until then Rangers gameplan was the usual punt up the park and hope for the best.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat , said: “USG were as poor a team I’ve seen in the Champions League and if Rangers never got that fortunate penalty on half time they would have been lucky to get through.” Meanwhile, players sometimes get a bad rap but Vince Kane, Uddingston , said: “I noticed Tony Ralston attending as a fan at Albion Rovers v Celtic B game on Tuesday. Tony took the time to sign everything from jerseys, scarves, trainers (some with a foot still in it) and football boots. Well done to Tony for taking his time to make many young fans happy.”

There will be no warm welcome for golf’s latest LIV rebel, with Open winner Cam Smith set to jump ship. Alastair Walker emailed: “What a kick in the teeth for the R&A. Cameron Smith should be made to hand back the Claret Jug, disappear into the sunset and never set foot on these shores again.”
