The Karaoke Hole: Beloved East London drag bar to close, leaving fans 'devastated'

One of East London’s most beloved drag bars will close this month after eight years of karaoke, dancing and glitter.

The glitzy and kitsch Karaoke Hole, a basement LGBTQ+ venue and a little sister to the cafe and events space Dalston Superstore, will host its last party on January 31.

The team behind the cocktail bar announced the news on Instagram and said: “It’s with a heavy heart [that] we’re letting you all know the Karaoke Hole will be closing its doors.

“Our last song will be on Saturday January 31, so come sing and raise your glass with us one last time.

“You’ve shaped the Karaoke Hole with every performance on our little stage and we want to thank you for your support. Come kiss the glitter curtains and stage goodbye! They’ve served us well.”

Though the space is shutting, the artists behind the concept said they will be taking it on the road and are still available for private hire and events.

But scores of regulars shared their sadness at the news, with many saying they were “devastated” and “heartbroken”, and that the Karaoke Hole will be “sorely missed”.

Described as a “bratty little sister” to Dalston Superstore, one of the most popular locations on the Kingsland Road, the bar launched below Voodoo Ray’s pizzeria in 2018 and has hosted countless nights of chaos, featuring some of East London’s finest drag stars.
