The Briefing

  • Voters in eight states will decide on 39 AI data center ballot measures in 2026 — 35 of them scheduled for November 3 — with Ohio leading the country at 21 measures across 18 jurisdictions.
  • Only 11% of Americans say they would support a data center being built in their community, while 65% actively oppose construction, according to a September UMass Amherst poll.
  • Republican candidates are most exposed: 75% of data centers currently under construction and 80% of those in the planning stage are concentrated in predominantly red states, according to Cleanview Research.
