The key pieces of the Dolphins' inaugural NRL squad are falling in to place with former North Queensland outside back Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow signing a two-year deal.

The 21-year-old, known as 'The Hammer', is set to play fullback for the Dolphins after coming mostly off the bench for the Cowboys this year due to the stellar form of regular custodian Scott Drinkwater.

Tabuai-Fidow showcased his versatility when he made his State of Origin debut for Queensland in 2021 where he played centre and scored a try in a 20-18 win.

He will give Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett the option to play him anywhere in the outside backs but the Cairns-born flyer has expressed a desire to play fullback which is why the Redcliffe-based club was the perfect fit.

Dolphins CEO Terry Reader said Tabuai-Fidow would provide "a new dynamic" to the squad.

"The Dolphins have been on the lookout for a real game breaker and there is no doubt he is just that," Reader said.

"He is electric with the ball in his hands and you can see him becoming a cult figure with our fans."

The Dolphins spine is now taking shape for the 2023 season with former Canterbury hooker Jeremy Marshall-King on board along with former Penrith playmakers Sean O'Sullivan and Isaiya Katoa.
