The Great British Bake Off fans were unhappy by the timing of the latest theme.
Bake Off faced fierce backlash over their "insensitive" Mexican week theme last week. The show was criticized for failing to hit the mark on terminology and representation and for falling on harmful stereotypes of Mexican people and food.
Moving on with no reference to the backlash, the tent this week turned dark as the bakers were tasked with making several batches of spooky treats. The cast were met with a Halloween week theme and though the idea went down a storm with fans, the execution left them reeling.

The tent's aesthetic remained relatively untouched for the holiday edition but the majority of backlash came from the timing of the theme. One viewer said: "I know there are more pressing concerns at the moment but why is #GBBO having ‘spooky’ week today and not next week, which is closer to Halloween?"
Another added: "Why Halloween this week and not next week, 25th Oct?!" A third viewer said: "Sorry why are we doing Halloween two weeks before Halloween???"
A final added: "Why didn’t Paul and Prue commit to the theme and dress up too? Boring." Apart from a few black and orange balloons dotted around the tent and some added eyeliner for the contestants, Halloween week flew relatively under the radar.
For the signature challenge, the bakers were asked to produce an apple cake, followed by eight s'mores for the technical challenge. Arriving at the showstopper, the bakers crafted their own Halloween hanging lantern full of sweet treats from whatever they liked.
