Viewers were left in awe as The Great British Bake Off cast impersonated Star Wars characters for their opening scenes.
The Great British Bake Off returned this evening with a whole new batch of eager bakers. Arriving at the now famous tent, this year's competitors could barely hold back their excitement, and neither could viewers.
During the opening scenes, the GBBO family looked vastly different from what they normally do. Decked out with bagels for hair buns and a mixer as a weapon, the presenters gave their best Star Wars impressions.

All four together were adorned with kitchen accessories as they tied the show into the sci-fi series. Matt Smith was dressed as Luke Skywalker, Noel Fielding as Princess Leia, Paul Hollywood as Darth Vader and Prue Leith as Chewbacca.
The sketch was so out of place some viewers said it felt like a scene from Noel's Mighty Boosh series. Despite the odd introduction, viewers admitted they were "dying" at the extravagant and unusual welcome.
One viewer said: "Already dying at #GBBO." Another added: "Intro rating Puns 10/10 Pru doing a Chewbacca voice 10/10 Bake off is back 1000/10."
A third viewer said: "Prubacca” I am cackling at this intro." A final comment added: "I AM ALREADY SCREAMING. I can’t with Noel & Matt."
After the presenters changed out of their Star Wars outfits, they issued the tent with their first challenge of the series. The bakers were tasked with creating 12 mini sandwich cakes, the perfect sponge and a showstopper cake inspired by a house close to their hearts
