Since progression is directly tied to mining, Pickaxes are the most important piece of gear in The Forge. When you start the game, you’ll be given a Stone Pickaxe for free by Sensei Moro. It’s the weakest Pickaxe in the game, but it’ll help you get started. This The Forge Pickaxe tier list will help you decide which one to go for next, instead of wasting money by following the tutorial. So, let’s dive right in!

How to get the Arcane Pickaxe in The Forge

The Arcane Pickaxe is the best pickaxe in The Forge right now. It is not available for purchase at Miner Fred’s Pickaxe Shop. Instead, you have to complete the Bard’s Guiatr quest to acquire an Unknown Key. Then, use that key to unlock the Fallen Angel’s Cave. Here’s how to do it all:
- At Stonewake’s Cross, talk to the Bard NPC to start a quest.
- You’ll have to find his guitar and bring it back to him.
- To get the guitar, go to The Cave and take the left path.
- Walk over to the grass at the base of a wooden pillar, and you’ll fall down into a secret cave.
- Go forward, and you’ll see the guitar next to a skeleton.
- Pick it up and bring it back to Bard to complete the quest and get the Unknown Key.
After obtaining the key, go back to The Cave. This time, follow the right path. Keep going until you reach a massive steel gate. Open the gate and follow the path to get to the Arcane Pickaxe.
How to get the Stonewake’s Pickaxe in The Forge

Go to the pickaxe and press E to add it to your inventory, provided you have the required Gold.

The Forge Pickaxe FAQs
No, the pickaxes do not have a health stat. That means their power and speed will not deteriorate with use.
No, only pickaxes that have a Rune Slot can equip a Rune. Low-rarity pickaxes like the Stone, Bronze, and Iron do not have Rune Slots, so they can’t be boosted.
You can add a Rune to your pickaxe by talking to the Runemaker NPC located near the beach of Stonewake’s Cross.
